Picnic is a Dutch grocery delivery service working in about 120 Dutch cities. The product team over at Picnic was looking for ways to make their private-label products stand out in the app and they approached me with a request to animate their unique packaging designs.
working with restrictions
The project was uniquely challenging as it came with a set of strict rules for the animations. As they were displayed on the mobile app among all the other products available to purchase, the animations had to be eye-catching enough to be visible on a relatively small picture, yet subtle enough to avoid creating visual chaos. To ensure that, I was allowed to animate only one element of each package. Additionally, each animation had to be animated with a maximum of 15 frames.
creative challenge
The project came with an additional creative challenge. There were multiple products with the same package design that would appear next to each other in the app. For that reason, I needed to come up with various animation ideas for most products. Although challenging at times, I’ve found this to be a great creativity booster allowing me to push my ideas further and further.
