Animated Explainer series - cardiovascular system

Hartstichting is a Dutch heart foundation founded to combat cardiovascular diseases. An essential part of their actions is educating the public about heart health and cardiovascular diseases and, more importantly, doing it in an easily accessible and comprehensive way. To achieve this goal, the team at Hartstichting decided to create a series of educational animated videos to publish on their website and social media channels. I had the great pleasure of becoming the illustrator and animator for the project.
storyboards
The project required creating 19 animated videos on various topics related to heart health and cardiovascular disease. The scripts had been prepared by the team at Hartstichting and I began by creating storyboards. The medical team checked every storyboard to ensure the visualisations are both medically correct and easy to understand for the general public.
illustrations
Once the storyboards were approved, we began working on the illustrations. The foundation has an established brand identity and an extensive library of illustrations. When illustrating the videos, I used many existing assets and ensured the new ones were consistent with the brand identity. The main goal for the animations was to make them very easily understandable and communicate the ideas clearly. This goal was the north star when making every design decision – we made sure to keep the illustrations clean and simple. Below, you can see a selection of illustrations I designed using some elements from the existing library.

The final 19 animations will be posted soon on the website and social media channels of Hartstichting. I’ll link them as soon as that’s possible, until then, I’d like to share two of the animations I created below.
